RWC Game 23: RSA vs. ITA

Italy started the game 4 competition points away from a Quarter Finals berth. All that stood in their road was the All Blacks and the Springboks.

Sitting atop their pool, you could feel the importance of starting well. Conceding a try early was not part of the plan, but was part of their reality.

At half time with the scores at 17 – 3, anything was possible. An unlikely victory was still on the theoretical cards. That was until Andrea Lovotti turned the game on its head, by dropping his opponent his.

Stupid, malicious and deserving of everything that is coming. Expect a lengthy suspension for the Italian.

The Italians chances were slim enough without playing almost half a match with 14 men. The Springboks pounced on their wounded prey running in 7 tries total.

Italy now needs to beat the All Black to have any hope of extending their tournament.

Final Score: South Africa 49 – Italy 3
