Wallabies fans everywhere were barracking for Uruguay!
Not only are they one of the more exciting teams to watch at this World Cup, following their win over Fiji, a win today would mean automatic qualification for the 2023 RWC.
The game started well for Uruguay winning turn over after turn over. Going into half time at 6 – 7 was a massive boost for their confidence. They had a clear game plan and stuck to it successfully. Wales had very little in response.
The second half started with earnest, Wales scoring in the 49th minute to take the scores to 14 – 6.
Uruguay were still very much in the match when they lost Santiago Civetta to the sin bin and conceded a penalty try in the 65th minute.
A try a piece took the game to 28 – 13 but a lack of any real pressure, meant the 15 point margin was carried too deep into the match.
Uruguay were hot on attack in the dying stages of the match. The game was beyond reach, but they didn’t want their World Cup to end.
Wales were happy to keep playing as well, eventually scoring to take the scores to their final margin.
If this form and skill continues, Uruguay will play in the RWC Finals sometime in the next 12 years.
Final Score: Wales 35 – Uruguay 13
